Sheffield Hallam University Graduates Embark on a New Filmmaking Empire

Three Sheffield Hallam University MA Filmmaking graduates Haresh Sood, Will Cocker and Adam McGrath, who all gained distinctions for their work on the course, have been invited to speak about their experience of collaborating on a brand-new documentary and on their growing film and media production company.

All three will be speaking to MA film students at Sheffield Hallam’s Master Summer Professional Strategies program, alongside numerous film industry professionals; from directors, to producers, distributors, location managers and numerous other important roles within the industry (*see list below).

British-Indian Director Haresh, who also works as a direct access barrister, has already tasted success with his first film My Neice’s Big Fat Delhi Wedding (#MNBFDW), which was completed as part of his MA at Sheffield Hallam and gained worldwide recognition, as it was screened at over 100 film festivals around the world and had a red carpet premiere at Arc Cinemas across the UK with releasing it globally on their OTT platform. Haresh (with the help of family) shot #MNBFDW which was pieced together by his trusted Editor Will who made the trailer ‘truly magical and a delight to watch.’

The new documentary Cama Sood Hara, which is a spin on the name Kama Sutra and explores themes of mental health, love, loss and societal pressures around marriage and relationships, in a comical, yet poignant way.

Together, Will and Haresh have shot Cama Sood Hara over the last two years in some exquisite locations of India within Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Punjab, the south of Spain in Sevilla, the heart of Andalusia, Kuwait City in Kuwait and the hidden gem and most beautiful pastures of Nottingham’s finest greenbelt, Hucknall.

Adam who joined them in the last year, as a creative producer for the UK leg of the film, has contributed highly valued knowledge and skillset from his background in mental health, filmmaking, and creative diversity, having worked on projects for ITV, the BBC, and Sky Arts.

During their filming abroad, Haresh and Will met with the Delhi office of SHU Hema Ramachandran Regional Adviser (South Asia), Soumitra - Sr Admission Adviser and Damanjeet - Admission Adviser to discuss the impact of SHU in India after their film launch. Hema said:

'It was a delight to meet Haresh and Will (both Hallam alumni) with my colleagues Soumitra and Damanjeet in our Delhi office last year, where we discussed the impact of their new film and how students in India can be encouraged to study at one of UK's finest universities, Sheffield Hallam University"

Sheffield Hallam’s Head of Filmmaking Colin Pons, who has produced films for a number of decades, was an integral part of why the three up and coming filmmakers engaged so much in their respective courses. Coin said:

“It has been a delight to teach Haresh, Will and Adam and to maintain contact with them since they graduated. Their present production activity links graduates from different years of the MA Filmmaking course at Sheffield Hallam in a productive and creative way. I was lucky enough to be at the premier of My Neice’s Big Fat Delhi Wedding and I can confirm there was not a dry eye in the house AND peels of laughter all around. A rare accomplishment in one film!  I am now totally intrigued to see what the team of Haresh, Will and Adam will come up with this time around. I know that this next film and the future proposed slate of films will be worthy of the time, skill, creativity, and care invested in them by this award-winning team!”

In the meantime, they have a series of projects lined up, which include filmmaking and law podcasts, promo video work and much more.
