LYRICS: WORLD RENOWNED VIOLINIST, MUSICIAN & GHAZAL SINGER
KAMALBIR SINGH NANDRA JOINS THE VIP LIST OF #CSH HOLI SCREENING ON 13 MARCH @ ARC ROTHERHAM!

Kamalbir Singh is a well known name in the field of Indian classical music and ghazals singing.
 

A student  of his father, Raghbir Singh and then from Sarangi maestros like Ustad Nazar Hussain and Pandit Ram Narayan, and Ghazal legend Jagjit Singh.


He has won gold medals in the category of bowed instruments by winning Indian classical music competition organised by All India Radios in 1974.


He has performed many solo concerts in prestigious venues in India like Taan Sen sangeet samaroh, Gwalior, Kamani auditorium, New Delhi, Ravinder Bhavan, Bhopal.


He played regular solo recitals in All India Radio and Delhi doordarshan (TV).


In U.K., he played in many famous venues like Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Centre, Ronnie Scott, Glastonbury festival and recently in Royal Festival Hall with Pop legend, Paul Weller and recoded his violin in his latest album, in a track called, ‘Books’.


He has accompanied many classical and semi classical artists like Anup Jalota, Ustad Shafqat Ali, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Pervez Mehdi and Sudha Malhotra.


He has recorded in many albums including Mahinder Kapoor, Hans Raj Hans and in a few films like Bride and Prejudice and appeared as a solo and accompanying artist on BBC, Channel 4, ITV Good morning Britain and other TV channels. My violin and Sarangi pieces were recorded by BBC for a couple of documentaries. Also was interviewed and played solo on ITV’s Good morning Britain.


He has composed music for many stage musicals like ‘A great handful of Hena’ and ‘Mind the gap’.


He was the first artist in Indian music to play in west end musical ‘The Far Pavillians’.
Played violin in many dance and storey telling projects with many organisations including Annapurana dance company.

He did solo violin and ghazals concerts in Sheffield Crucible theatre, City memorial hall and Firth hall.


He has performed in many countries like USA, France, Spain, Guadeloupe, Andora, Portugal, India, Germany and Netherlands as a violinist and ghazal singer.


He did a week of workshops in Jazz school of music in Arnhem, Netherlands and played violin in famous WDR orchestra in Cologne and Bournemouth philharmonic orchestra.


In the Nehru Centre, London, he sung Ghazals composed by himself to promote U.K. based poets.

During Covid time, he ran a show on India’s famous news channel ‘Palpal TV where he invited many famous artists like Jazim Sharma, Ishita Vishwakarma, the SaReGaMaPa 2019 winner, and many more budding artists from India’s talent shows, Swati Natekar, famous classical singer from London and many more from India, UK, Norway, Sweden, USA and Canada etc and interviewed them and asked them to perform live and did over 100 episodes.


He has performed Solo and as an accompanist with many artists from India, Pakistan and UK for SAA UK, Music room, Wembley and many other organisations in UK.


Recently he composed a piece based on Beetoven symphony 9 and played solo and duet with fellow South Indian violinist Vijay Venket in the Red violin festival for SAA UK in Leeds.


He has acted as examiner for a few organisations and institutes for advance music students in UK and abroad. I also have been teaching Indian classical music and Ghazals on one to one basis and for other organisations like SAA UK and Leeds college of music.


He has Played many times with well known Classical singer Chandra Chakraborty’s vocal concerts and her musicals like Akhtri, Devi and many more.


He has also composed and sung in a film called ‘Winter of love’.

He was a special guest because he embraces the art of appreciating good lyrics in music which link to the film. A message the film director inadvertently shares to help others during difficult times.
