Taj Mahal

Synopsys of the story

This documentary film, (production based in both Nottingham & Sevilla) follows Filmmaker and Barrister Haresh Sood, who tells his own story. Whilst his first film was about the marriage of his niece (the global hit, My Nieces Big Fat Delhi Wedding), this time the spotlight is on Haresh himself for not being married.

In this exposition, we hear from a British Indian male on how and why he is unmarried at the age of 48 years. The title of the film is a spin on an old famous Indian scripture with deep cultural meaning that comes into focus as the story unfolds.

Haresh highlights the discrimination, taunts, comments, and amusing views he has had to endure, whilst simultaneously highlighting the dark underbelly of the Indian matrimonial system.

In the film, Haresh opens his heart and shares his personal and emotional journey through love, loss and much more. He explains how the help of laughter and his chocolate Labrador Pancho, (and many other L words) have played a prominent role in rediscovering his own happiness, and his own voice through his larynx.

Haresh then intelligently examines the entire proscribed ‘union of marriage’ by turning the tables on the agents and advocates of matrimony in all communities and cultures. He places these under direct scrutiny, asking them to sell the union to him, adducing some contradictory and interesting responses.

In addition to the comic tone that Haresh brings to his story-telling, his journey highlights many subjects which are never spoken about in Indian culture and diaspora or marriage in general, which have led to many people to being single either through choice, divorce, or a disinterest in relationships.

Moreover, he creates and shares an insightful theory as to why relationships work and fail from his own experiences and based on a plethora of research from experts following the 'i theory', a subject that is gaining immense interest.

The film was shot across five countries (U.K, India, Kuwait, Spain, and Norway) and has a cast, crew, and production team of some 250 people. The film has received global attention amongst the independent film circuit because of its unique story. As the film tours, it is receiving rave reviews (available on all social media platforms @HareshSoodFilms).

N.B. - The film is decidedly just as melodious incorporating the original contributions of many artists, singers, and musicians both locally, nationally, and globally in this distinctive documentary. Such contributions can be surveyed on our music page.

This thought-provoking documentary will leave you in discussion of its topics touched upon from a new perspective.
