The film which is on an international tour, has a Q & A at the end of each screening dedicated to a set of words beginning with the letter 'L' which we overlook in our lives. For the London Exclusive VIP screening, there is no better name than the heavyweight Rani Singh to lead this discussion.

Rani Singh has a remarkable and fascinating career.  Unusually, she has excelled across many different parts of the media industry. Rani broke barriers and stereotypes by achieving successful outcomes in everything she has done, so far, with the Media and Acting industries.

Rani Singh’s long list of achievements makes her one of the most multi-talented media personalities and outstanding opinion leaders of today. It is, therefore, unsurprising that Rani earns the recognition and respect of her peers in every department she works for.

Born and raised in London, Rani comes from a distinguished family of diplomats and senior military officers. Her uncle, an important government officer and area commander serving in Indian military intelligence, rescued the Dalai Lama from Tibet in a dramatic coup when the Chinese invaded the country- more of that, below.  Rani’s culturally enriching international background has shaped her own dedication to raising the profile and understanding of South Asian culture.

The first South Asian to complete a BA in Performance Arts in the UK, Rani was immediately head-hunted by Channel 4 and the BBC. It was the start of a successful and ongoing career on the small screen. Best known for her role in EastEnders as shopkeeper Sufia Karim, Rani became one of the most famous female Asian faces on British TV and longest serving Asian character in soap at that time. Some of Rani’s other roles were in BBC One comedy drama Roger Roger, before guesting in both ITV’s The Bill and BBC1’s Casualty. Rani was last seen acting in a primetime BBC One three-part drama series. She was also a regular member of the cast of BBC Radio’s Silver Street series with a bilingual role.

Rani can be heard on BBC5Live and seen on BBC News. She continues her Adventure Journalism even while returning to Acting.

A desire to open up the world of South Asia to a greater public led Rani to undertake the BBC’s war zone reporter training led by British Marine Commandos before she started working in hostile environments, conflict zones and areas of civil unrest during contentious elections. She reported from the front on both sides of the Line of Control in Kashmir – one of few western journalists to do so – and has been nominated for awards in London and Washington for bravery. She also enjoys commentating on Business and Sport including F1, Cricket, and Horse Racing at Ascot or Windsor.

Rani was a finalist for Radio News Journalist of the Year at the EMMA’s (Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards) and wrote for The Guardian and Observer Foreign News Service as well as the Forbes Group.

Rani trained with the BBC to produce and present factual documentaries. As mentioned above, her uncle was the late Har Mander Singh, the Indian army officer who escorted the Dalai Lama to safety when the "God-king" fled from Tibet in 1959 after the Chinese invasion. Rani persuaded both men to tell her what happened.

She spent many days interviewing the two protagonists about their history and special relationship in their home and palace  respectively. She became the first foreign producer to lead a camera crew to the sensitive Indo-Chinese border to retrace the path taken by the men.

Rani wrote it all down in her book “An Officer and His Holiness” for Random House and her filmed interviews formed the core narrative of the documentary film, “Never Forget Tibet: The Dalai Lama’s Untold Story.”
