'WHY IS THE MA FILMMAKING COURSE AT SHEFFIELD HALLAM UNIVERSITY, THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY', FILM DIRECTOR & BARRISTER HARESH SOOD EXPLAINS AS HIS FILM STARTS AT AN INTERNATIONAL TOUR!

Since going to one of the leading drama schools in the country, I would not compromise on quality! I scouted many film schools with flashy adverts and glossy brochures with expensive fees which promised to make me the Indian Spielberg.....but luckily as a Barrister, my intuitive nature made me meticulously investigate and find the best course in the country to become the filmmaker I always wanted to be. Here is an introduction to the key players at the Film School of Hallam. Stay tuned on this page for more write ups from my directorial journey.

Saskia Wilson FHEA is course leader in MA Filmmaking and BA (Hons) Film and TV Production at Sheffield Hallam University.  She specialises in documentary production and teaches across a range of modules with the aim of developing the next generation of creatives who are inspired and empowered by bold and innovative moving image work.

Prior to teaching, Saskia worked for twenty years as a documentary director, producer and edit producer across a range of factual programmes for major British broadcasters.  These include: returning series such as 24 Hours in A&E (Channel 4), 999 What’s Your Emergency (Channel 4) and Secret Life of the Zoo (Channel 4); the Parachute Murder Plot, a 60 minute film following the story of Victoria Cilliers, a victim of coercive control for ITV1’s Crime & Punishment series; feature documentary Breaking Up With The Joneses (Channel 4) about a family going through a divorce and nominated for four BAFTAs, a Broadcast and a Grierson Award; Coming Out Diaries (BBC Three), a 60 minute documentary following three young people navigating their way through coming out as gay or transgender; and she was development producer on the successful returning series The Undateables (Channel 4).

Colin Pons - Film Producer. Over my 40 years in the film industry, I have often worked with new and emerging producers and directors and have worked closely developing and financing two Bafta short film winners among the 30-40 shorts and features supported.

It is a pleasure seeing projects like ‘Cama Sood Hara’ made by alumni students after they have graduated.

As former leader of the MA filmmaking course at Sheffield Hallam University and over my years in the industry, I have had the pleasure of being in contact with new and emerging talent, such as Haresh Sood, Reuben Reng and Maria Chrisa and many others. They are all part of a new international wave of filmmaking that I for one am proud to be associated with.
