North West red carpet premiere of Cama Sood Hara to be held in Preston
READ: Article on Blog Preston
Preston is set to host a landmark cultural event as Cama Sood Hara receives its North West red carpet premiere at The Arc Cinema.
The event will take place on Friday 15 August and will celebrate both India’s and Pakistan’s Independence Days.
Following a critically acclaimed run across the UK and Ireland, Cama Sood Hara continues to spark nationwide conversation with its powerful message. The documentary, created by barrister and filmmaker Haresh Sood, explores the societal and familial pressures placed on a 47-year-old unmarried British-Indian man, blending humour, heartbreak and cultural reflection.
Through his personal story and interviews, Haresh Sood presents I-Theory, a new framework exploring self-worth, relationship pressures, and finding happiness outside societal norms.
Deputy Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nweeda Khan, will be in attendance. Recognised as the Pride of Preston’s South Asian Community, Cllr Khan is the first Asian Muslim woman to serve as Deputy Mayor. With nearly a decade of experience in local government and more than 45 years of community advocacy, she has led numerous initiatives across education, social work, and humanitarian causes.
Cllr Khan said: “Community cohesion, representation, and empowering marginalised voices are the cornerstones of my work. I am honoured to support this meaningful film and stand alongside those challenging stereotypes and uplifting unheard stories.”
Haresh Sood and his team said they are “truly humbled” to welcome Cllr Khan to the Preston premiere, adding that “her presence underscores the values of inclusivity, courage, and community that the film stands for.”
The red carpet event will also welcome a host of distinguished guests from across the UK’s South Asian and cultural communities, including Barkha Rani, Nirmal Singh MBE, Ishwar Tailor MBE JPDL, Reshpal Singh Bilkhu, Abhi Kodanda, Chirag Khajuria, Dr. Anitha Ragaswamy and Ashit Jariwala.
The premiere forms part of a wider series of events supported by Preston City Council. A flag-raising ceremony at Preston Town Hall on Thursday 14 August at 10.30am will mark Pakistan Independence Day, and will be followed by a mayoral visit and a celebratory event hosted by Preston Community Hub. On Friday 15 August, India’s Independence Day will be marked with a flag-raising ceremony at 10.30am at Preston Town Hall, with a community celebration taking place on Sunday 17 August at the Gujrat Hindu Society.
Tickets to the red carpet premiere of Cama Sood Hara are limited, with just 40 seats available at a price of £7.95 via the Arc Cinema website.
